Clarity Fatigue

I noticed something strange about myself lately. I'm never stuck anymore, and that's becoming a problem.

With AI always available to clarify, sharpen, and propose next actions, the natural friction that used to force rest is gone. Ambiguity was a governor on pace. "I don't know" created space to pause, reflect, or procrastinate productively. Now clarity is always one prompt away.

I caught myself thinking: I feel like my whole day is filled with thoughts I keep monitoring, keep sharpening. I don't have any time to take a break or just be tired.

That last part stopped me. Not having time to be tired isn't a feature. It's a warning.

Before AI, uncertainty created natural stopping points. "I need to think about this" was often cover for "I need a break." Now that AI can instantly clarify every question, surface every next action, the friction is gone. There's always more I could do, and now I can actually do it.

But procrastination wasn't just laziness. It was also recovery. Background processing. Creative incubation. If AI removes all the "unproductive" gaps, I might be running at an unsustainable pace without realizing it.

I don't have answers yet. Just questions I'm sitting with:

  • More output doesn't equal more impact. Am I actually more effective, or just busy?
  • Before, "I'm stuck" was a natural end to the day. What replaces that now?
  • Is this energizing or depleting? Honestly?
  • What would intentional rest look like, not forced procrastination, but planned pause?

I'm writing this down because I think I'm catching something early. And maybe that's the point: with all this clarity available, the skill isn't using it. It's knowing when to stop.
